Taking Massive Action
Get the wheels in motion.
It’s not always as easy as it sounds, getting the wheels in motion can be difficult for some. Many of us need an incentive or a push in the right direction. I first started FAST@50 back in 2009 to help with my own self motivation and hoped that it would one day inspire others to take up a challenge and get physical. Just a few weeks prior to rebooting this blog a good friend of mine asked for my help to assist him in creating a his own personal Blog, when he told me the nature of what he wanted I was more than happy to help.
FAST@60
At the age of 60 he set a personal goal of getting fit and taking on the huge challenge of taking part in an Iron Man event in 12 months. For those who are not familiar with what a full IronMan entails. It starts with a 2.4mile swim in open water, followed by 112 mile bike ride after which you run a 26.22 mile marathon. Although Mark was no stranger to this kind of endurance, as a former serviceman and ultra runner, it had been well over 30+ years since he had tried something like this. Not quite a walk in the park.
Note from Author: FAST@50 is not necessarily just for those of us in our fifties, you can be Fit and Still Training at any age. The point is that it all gets a little harder as we get older, so if we can encourage anyone who is approaching those senior years, to continue to stay active and above all challenge ourselves, our lives can be so much better as we approach old age. If at the same time we can raise money for charity it can only be a good thing.
12 Month IronMan
The aim of the blog was to help him keep track of his progress and go some way to making him accountable. By announcing his intentions to family and friends is no doubt one way in showing some form of accountability. Actually creating an online presence for all to see helps to solidify that accountability.
The website was created on a similar structure to mine, as this would help him to visualise how it should look, without actually replicating the whole website. His main focus should be his “Training Diary” which is primarily a personal blog. The pleasing thing from my point of view was once I had setup the skeleton structure of the website he immediately threw himself into it and got cracking, (well done MarkyBoy).
Motivation
I know for a fact that he now often watches the video I posted on the home page of his website to help give his that kick up the backside when things aren’t quite going to plan.
